Book Talks

How to Give a Book Talk

  • PURPOSE: Get your classmates excited about your book, author, series or genre!
  • PREPARE:
  • Make sure you have read the entire book.
  • Choose a book that you LOVED and you think others will enjoy.
  • Think about what is interesting about your book.
  • Think about the lead-how will you capture your audience?
  • Write page numbers and a few notes on stickies.
  • Pick a favorite part to read to the class. THIS SECTION MUST BE PRACTICED BEFORE YOU PRESENT! NO MORE THAN 2 PAGES!
  • PRESENT:
  • Show the book.
  • Start with an exciting lead or hook.
  • Tell us the author, title, genre and copyright date.
  • Explain how you found your book and why you chose to share it.
  • Tell a LITTLE about the book, but don’t give away any secrets. We want to know a bit about the plot, the characters, the setting and the problems that arise.
  • Mention other books by the same author or other books in the series.READ your favorite part out loud and SOUND FLUENT! NO MISTAKES!

You will be required to do one of three things after finishing a silent reading book of your choice:  You may:

1.  Present a book talk to your classmates (must be prepared at home with PROOF!)

2.  Write a book review.

3.  Write a letter to me about the book in your reader’s notebook.
